How foodbanks work

The Lincoln Community Larder offers a local food bank service to people in the Lincoln area. A simple parcel of food can make a big difference to people in crisis.

Food is donated

Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to a foodbank. Large collections often take place as part of Harvest Festival celebrations and food is also collected at supermarkets.

Food is sorted and stored

Volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it away in boxes that are stored in the warehouse until it is needed on the shelves in the Larder.

Professionals identify people in need

Lincoln Community Larder partners with a wide range of front line caring agencies such as Citizens Advice, YMCA, Framework, Probation Service
Families Working Together, Addaction, City Hall Benefits Advice and many others
to identify people in crisis and issue them with a Larder voucher.

Clients receive food

Lincoln Community Larder clients bring their voucher to one of our centres where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Volunteers offer a friendly welcome and service.
